Project One

Project One is what happens when two of hardstyle’s defining producers stop competing and join forces: Headhunterz and Wildstylez (Willem Rebergen and Joram Metekohy, friends since high school) formed the duo in 2008 and promptly rewrote the genre’s rulebook.

The album that changed the sound

Their 13-track debut, “Headhunterz & Wildstylez Present: Project One”, was produced in under three months (roughly a track a week) and debuted at Defqon.1 2008 before its release that July. Tracks like “The Art of Creation”, “Life Beyond Earth” and “The Story Unfolds” became eternal classics, and the record’s melodic, cinematic take on hardstyle echoed through the following decade. The Art of Creation title later named the label the two founded together.

Hiatus and resurrection

From 2010 the pair focused on solo careers (Headhunterz toward global stages, Wildstylez deeper into the scene) until the 2016 comeback with “EP1” and singles like “Resurrection”. In 2018 Project One delivered the official Defqon.1 anthem, cementing the reunion. On HDRR’s tracking, current favourites include “The Upside Down” and the Headhunterz rework of “Rate Reducer”.
