About Sefa

Sefa (Sefa Jeroen Vlaarkamp from Alkmaar, the Netherlands) compressed a career’s worth of milestones into his first two decades: debut EP at 14, genre-shifting album at 17, festival history at 19. He is frenchcore’s prodigy and its most compelling argument that 200 BPM can carry real emotional weight.

The apprentice

Vlaarkamp started producing hardstyle at age 10, but a family connection to Dr. Peacock introduced him to frenchcore, and the genre fit like a glove. His first EP, ‘Bad Dreams’, arrived when he was 14, and under Dr. Peacock’s wing he developed at a pace the scene had rarely seen.

Life = Suffering

In March 2018, aged 17, Sefa released ‘Leven = Lijden’ (‘Life = Suffering’), a frenchcore album built around the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer, not a sentence anyone expected to write about hard dance. The album’s blend of pounding off-beat kicks, classical harmony and genuine melancholy introduced masses of hardstyle fans to frenchcore, and shortly after its release he began performing with a live piano on stage, first at Harmony of Hardcore in 2018. The image of a teenager playing piano over 200 BPM kicks became one of the scene’s defining recent moments.

Making history at Defqon.1

In 2019 Sefa produced the first frenchcore anthem in Defqon.1’s history and took the festival’s mainstage, the moment frenchcore’s arrival in the hard dance mainstream became undeniable, capping the rise that he and mentor Dr. Peacock had driven together. He has kept releasing at a steady clip since, with more than 200 tracked releases in the HDRR catalogue.

Every new Sefa release lands on the Frenchcore Release Radar the day it hits Spotify. The full catalogue is listed above.
