What is Techno?
Techno is the mother genre this whole site orbits at a distance: four-to-the-floor, hypnotic, groove-first - and, in its classic form, slower and cleaner than anything HDRR tracks daily. This page exists for the crossovers: the occasional straight-techno release from artists in our hard-dance tracking.
Why this feed is small
HDRR follows the hard dance scene, so techno only enters the radar when tracked artists release it. The real volume lives one door over: hard techno (the 145-160+ BPM, distorted-kick strain that exploded in the 2020s) and its German ancestor schranz. If you came here hunting new four-to-the-floor heat, those two pages are updated with dozens of releases weekly.
From techno to hard
The line between techno and hard dance has always been porous. Schranz grew directly out of Frankfurt techno in the 1990s; today’s hard techno wave pulled a generation of techno DJs toward harder, faster territory, and artists cross back and forth constantly. That traffic is exactly what this page catches.
Where to hear it
The Hard Techno Release Radar collects every new harder-techno release daily, and the Hard Techno Top 100 charts the current most-streamed tracks. Whatever techno crossovers we track are listed above, updated daily.
Questions,answered
Where can I find new techno releases on HDRR?
HDRR is a hard dance radar, so straight techno appears here only when it crosses into our tracked artists' output. The daily-updated Hard Techno page and the Hard Techno Release Radar playlist carry the full stream of new harder techno.
What is the difference between techno and hard techno?
Techno is the broad four-to-the-floor genre, typically 125-140 BPM with an emphasis on groove and hypnotic repetition. Hard techno pushes the tempo to roughly 145-160+ BPM and distorts the kick - the aggressive strain HDRR tracks daily.
