About Neophyte

Neophyte’s origin story is the history of Rotterdam hardcore in miniature. Formed as a trio in 1992 (Jeroen Streunding with Danny Greten and Robin van Roon), they tracked their first gabber productions on an Amiga running Protracker and took them to the genre’s source.

‘Pure noise’

That source was Paul Elstak and Rotterdam Records, the world’s first hardcore label. Elstak famously rejected the demos as ‘pure noise’, then reconsidered months later and signed them. The first Neophyte EP arrived in 1993, and Streunding’s knack for hits (also under aliases like Bodylotion and, when he crosses into hardstyle, The Beholder) made him one of the scene’s most reliable engines.

Neophyte Records

In 1999, in the middle of hardcore’s late-90s recession, Streunding founded Neophyte Records to give the genre a pounding heartbeat again. It worked: the label built careers (Tha Playah, Evil Activities and Nosferatu among them) and passed 420 million worldwide streams by 2025, ranking among the most successful hardcore labels anywhere.

Three decades loud

Still headlining and still releasing (‘Hit The Speakers’ (2026) currently leads his Spotify catalogue in HDRR’s tracking), Neophyte remains what he has been since 1992: the brain of Rotterdam’s hardest export.

Every new Neophyte release lands on the Hardcore Release Radar the day it hits Spotify. The full tracked catalogue is listed above.
