About Dj Mad Dog

DJ Mad Dog is one of Italian hardcore’s most enduring names, a producer who has helped define the sound of Traxtorm Records for more than twenty years. Born Filippo Calcagni in Rome, he has spent his career at the tougher end of hardcore, and he remains a fixture on the biggest gabber stages in Europe.

From Hardcore Terrorists to Traxtorm

Calcagni fell for hardcore as a teenager and, at 16, started out in a Rome act called Hardcore Terrorists, whose 1996 live debut made a mark on the city’s scene. In 2000 he went solo and signed to Traxtorm Records, the Italian hardcore institution founded by The Stunned Guys. That partnership turned him into one of the label’s flagship artists and a regular at events like Thunderdome and Masters of Hardcore.

The Italian hardcore sound

Mad Dog’s productions are built on the classic hardcore recipe: distorted four-to-the-floor kicks, menacing samples and relentless energy, usually between 160 and 200 BPM. Over the years he has traded tracks and stages with peers like Tommyknocker and Angerfist, and his catalogue spans everything from underground gabber to mainstage anthems. In 2023 he delivered ‘Xtreme Audio’ as an official Thunderdome anthem, a mark of his standing in the scene.

Still on the front line

Beyond his own releases, Calcagni runs Dogfight Records, giving the harder Italian sound a home and a new generation a platform. Deep into the 2020s he is still shipping music at pace, with 2026 tracks like ‘SWIPE THE FUNK’ and ‘Fire Bomb’ tracked here as they land.
