Gammer

Gammer is the bridge between UK hardcore’s golden era and its global streaming present. Matthew Lee surfaced in 2002 on Essential Platinum, where he formed the duo Dougal & Gammer with label boss Dougal (starting from the debut single ‘Acid’, it became one of happy hardcore’s defining partnerships) and grew into the scene’s defining workhorse.

The awards run

The record speaks plainly: ‘A New Feeling’ took Song of the Year at the 2006 Hardcore Heaven Awards, and from 2008 to 2012 Gammer was named Hardcore DJ of the Year five years running (sharing 2010 with Dougal). In 2007 he founded Muffin Music, and he later co-founded Together We Rise, a label dedicated to hardcore.

‘THE DROP’ and the Monstercat era

Signing with Monstercat took the sound worldwide: ‘Party Don’t Stop’, ‘Over the Edge’ and the EP ‘THE DROP’, whose title track became one of the most-played festival tracks of 2018 with eleven official remixes. Suddenly happy hardcore’s DNA was detonating on main stages far outside the UK.

Elder statesman at full speed

Alongside fellow crossover ambassadors like S3RL and Da Tweekaz, Gammer keeps hardcore’s melodic, joyful strain alive for new generations: his recent singles ‘Freaks’, ‘Heads Will Roll’ and ‘The Tribe’ currently lead his Spotify catalogue in HDRR’s tracking.
