Charlie Sparks (UK)

Charlie Sparks calls his sound “hard and happy”, and that two-word manifesto explains why the hard techno boom adopted him as one of its best-loved figures: relentless kicks without the grimace, rave euphoria without the irony. Born in London and raised partly in Kawasaki, he carries both cities in the music: UK rave pressure, Japanese pop-culture heart.

Architecture school to fabric

He didn’t know what a DJ was until he was 18; seeing Jack Ü at Reading Festival and a formative first night at fabric changed the trajectory. While studying architecture in London he learned to DJ, and from 2019 his productions (on imprints like Global Tribe and Finder Records, later Taapion, No Mercy and his own label) spread through Europe’s fastest-growing scene. Tracks like “Exploited”, “Senshi” and “Underground Sushi” made him a fixture at Verknipt, Teletech and RSO Berlin.

Anime at 150 BPM

The anime influence isn’t decoration, it’s the emotional register: melodic, sincere, maximal. In that sense he’s kin to the melodic wing of the new hard techno school, alongside Alignment and NOVAH, and a natural bridge to the J-core world his Japanese upbringing touches.
