D-Block & S-te-Fan (Diederik Bakker and Stefan den Daas) have spent two decades as hardstyle’s reliable hit factory, with a songbook of festival anthems few acts in hard dance can match.

Two producers, one instinct

Bakker grew up around electronic music (his father produced it), while den Daas cut his teeth on happy hardcore. They met in 2004, released their first track as D-Block & S-te-Fan in 2005, and quickly discovered that together they had what neither had alone: an instinct for hooks. Early success brought their own label, Next Chapter, in 2006, before they joined the Scantraxx family and launched their own sub-label, Scantraxx Evolutionz.

Anthem years

Tracks like ‘Built This City’ and ‘Alive’ defined their lane: euphoric, vocal-driven hardstyle built for the largest possible stage. The scene noticed: in 2010 they were voted #73 in the DJ Mag Top 100, the highest of any hardstyle act that year, and by 2011 Q-dance handed them their own X-Qlusive event. Their festival record since covers the genre’s whole geography: Qlimax, Defqon.1, Mysteryland, Decibel.

Built to last

What sets D-Block & S-te-Fan apart is longevity without staleness. The same instinct for reinvention produced Ghost Stories, their darker side project with vocalist Evelyn, launched with the gold record ‘Angels & Demons’ (2017), staged live from Reverze 2019 onward, and retired with a final show at the duo’s 20-year anniversary event in November 2025. Twenty years in, they remain fixtures at the top of the bill, collaborating across generations (from veterans like Ran-D to the euphoric new school like Sound Rush), while their releases keep landing in the scene’s charts. Over 220 releases in the HDRR catalogue tell the story of a duo that never stopped shipping.
